BOOTCAMP with Erica
12-week advanced improv course for the rising stars, the improv nerds and the drama queens.
Service Description
🎬 WHAT IS THE BOOTCAMP? This is our course for regular players, seasoned improvisers — our SPARK rising stars! 🌟 It runs for 12 weeks, from Wednesday 24 Sept to Wednesday 10 December, with a showcase on 18 December. In this course, you’ll work on key improv skills, create entertaining stories and interesting characters, and explore narrative structures and improv formats. Each term, you’ll practice a new format, leading up to a show. You’ll learn the language, technique and skills of improvising a full-length piece. The BOOTCAMP is more brainy, more nerdy, mixing play and theory. You’ll become eligible to audition for the ensemble and become an absolute improv star 🌟 ______________________________________ 🎭 THIS TERM’S FORMAT: Improvised Sitcom 📺 Starting September, Wednesdays are must-see TV at SPARK. Get ready for THE SITCOM, a narrative ensemble format that celebrates (and teaches) strong characters, relationship, status, and never, ever growing or evolving even after five seasons. Will we create It's Always Rainy in Rotterdam? Volle Thuis? Freends (like Friends, but everyone's a duck)? It'll depend on whether YOU tune in on Wednesdays starting 24 September at 7:30. ______________________________________ ❓ Should you take the BOOTCAMP? YES, if... ✅ You’ve spent a year (3 trimesters) or more in the WORKOUT (or you’ve completed the FULL curriculum at another school) 🎭 You loved the thrill of the stage and want to play in front of more than just your friends 🔍 You’re curious about improv theory, discovering different formats, spotting the patterns underneath your favorite performances 📝 You’re hungry for notes 🤝 You’re ready to listen, support, commit and take risks 💬 Not sure if it’s for you? Message us! We’re happy to help out. ______________________________________ 🎓 YOUR TRAINER Erica Maity (she/her) has been improvising for eleven years, teaching for four. She was a staff teacher at Florida Studio Theater under Will Luera (primarily teaching Harold classes). In Eindhoven, Netherlands (where she is now based) she leads drop-ins, coaches, and teaches long form. She has extensive experience with both Chicago-style and theatrical improv, and loves having access to the tools from both. In addition to teaching and organizing, she has performed in Europe with the teams Seven with Wine, As Seen on TV and Na Ja. Most of her time these days is taken up with her job as Artistic Director and Head of Production for Impro Amsterdam.
